Total Surrender
Matthew 6:24 says, “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.”
We want to hold onto what pleases our flesh and give up only what we want. But total surrender to the Lord doesn’t allow us to do this. Our sin should begin to feel uncomfortable the more we mature in Christ. We either fully surrender to the Lord or give ourselves back over to our sins.
Why do you think that is? God requires all of our hearts, not just the parts that are easy to give up. Holding back what rightfully belongs to Him causes bitterness and heartache. The Christian life is continual surrender. The Holy Spirit plucks and pulls on our hearts encouraging us to release the things that do not reflect the image of Our Father. You will often hear me say, “The Christian walk is not stagnant, You either go forward or you fall back.” When we stop growing we make ourselves easy targets for the enemy. Our greatest defense against the enemy is deepening our roots in the Word of God.
