The Truth Shall Make You Free

Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. John 8:31-32

There are many references to freedom in the Bible because God created us to be free. However, you only have to read the first 3 chapters in the Bible to see that humanity rebelled against God and gave up their God given freedom. It is disobedience that imprisons us spiritually. Spiritual slavery is hardly ever recognized. We chase after money, personal gain, romantic relationships, success and material goods at an alarming rate. Yet, in all of our chasing, a void still exists. A void that can only be filled with freedom. Freedom that only comes from truth. What is the truth that sets us free? A personal relationship with Jesus Christ. The truth that He is God’s Son, sent as a baby in a manger, grew up to minister and perform miracles, died on a cross for your sins and mine and lives today in Heaven waiting to return for those that are in relationship with Him.

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6

Billy Graham said in one of his devotions about being set free: “I speak reverently when I say that Jesus is more than His ideas. All that He said was true, but without Him even the truth would have been powerless.” Jesus is that truth. A relationship with Him is what sets you free. If you aren’t free today, start by admitting you are slave to sin, ask for forgiveness and choose to follow Jesus. If you are free today, continue in His Word. Obey and Love His Word. The truth is redemption, and the truth will make you free!
