“No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man, but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.”
1 Corinthians 10:13-22
Paul is pointing out 2 important reminders when facing temptation. The first is, that the level of temptation that we face will be proportionate to the strength God will give us to resist it. I have often heard it said that God will never give you more than you can bear. This cannot be further from the truth. The promise is that God is faithful. It is never in our own strength that we are able to resist temptation. The second reminder is, that with temptation, God will provide a way of escape.
In 2 Corinthians 12:9 Paul writes, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” It is in our weakness that God’s strength is applied perfectly to our lives. All of us face temptation. The promise of scripture is that it is possible to resist when we rest in the faithfulness of God. Our strength is not our own it comes from the One who promises to never leave us or forsake us.
