The Patience of God

We know that an attribute of God is His patience or long-suffering with His people and unbelievers. 2 Peter 3:9 says, “The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not willing for any to perish, but for all to come to repentance.”
I can see time and time again in my life how patient He really is. How He has needed to teach me a lesson again after I thought I had already learned that lesson, or how He has protected me and lovingly brought me back to Him when I had gone astray. I can clearly see His patience in action in Luke 24 regarding His resurrection.
Although before His crucifixion, He had told the disciples and followers that He would suffer and be raised from the dead on the third day and the Law of Moses, Prophets and Psalms wrote about the plan of the coming Christ, the disciples that day still had a hard time believing it was really Him who had risen from the dead and who He really was. However, Jesus is patient with them and little by little He reveals who He is by becoming real to them.
How often in our lives do we miss what He has shown or told us? Our loving Savior desires all men to come to repentance and to truly know Him. Let’s thank our Savior for His great patience with each one of us.
