The Cure for Anxiety

In our world today anxiety is higher than it’s ever been. I have also seen a trend that some are almost proud saying they have anxiety or suffer from anxiety, or speak about anxiety like it’s normal life.

Philippians 4:6 says,Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and pleading with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.“ Most of us have heard this and know in our minds that this is correct and what we should do especially as children of God. However, there seems to be a disconnect as to knowing this is what we need to do and really applying it to our lives.

I believe it boils down to where our heart is focused. The Lord has been reminding me in my life to focus on the eternal, to store up treasures in heaven and to sow eternal seeds that reap heavenly rewards. If we really understand we are only here on this earth for such a brief time, we begin to understand things from His perspective. Matthew 6:25 says “For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is life not more than food, and the body more than clothing?”

Ask yourself this question, “Is life not more than food, and the body more than clothing?” Life is more than earthly items and it’s much more than worrying about earthly things. As followers of Christ our focus needs to be on eternal treasures, in other words what can I do for His kingdom? You see, there’s no reason to be bogged down with the things of this world because our Heavenly Father knows what we need. We have a promise from God that He will take care of all our needs on this earth as we seek Him and draw near to Him. Be hungry for the spiritual and He will take care of our physical.

“Do not worry then, saying, ‘What are we to eat?’ or ‘What are we to drink?’ or ‘Whatare we to wear for clothing?’ For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be provided to you.” Matthew 6: 31-33
