Shaped by Water

“Oh, let’s stop and look at those sand hills,” I suggested.

Larry and I were taking a Sunday afternoon drive in the desert part of the Montana mountains when we came across an area with unusually shaped sand hills. There wasn’t any sage brush, cactus, weeds or grass growing on this sand. It had been a month or so since it had rained in the area, so the sand was crusty on the surface and easy to walk on.

The sand hills were various heights, up to forty feet. Some were flat on top, some were round, others were cone shaped, some were bigger at the top than the bottom. “This looks like the landscape from a science fiction movie—desolate with strange shaped hills” Larry reflected.

As we walked around the area, we could see how rainwater flowing over, through and around the sand hills constantly changed them. There were gullies and tunnels through the sand everywhere we looked.  As the water undercut some of the formations, big chunks of the sand had fallen and made new shapes.

Just as the sand hills became hard and crusty without water, we will become hard and crusty, too, when we don’t have God’s Word in our lives. Studying and then applying God’s Word to our life will change us into the shape God wants us to be.

I desire to be formed as God desires for me.
