Pain started radiating down Larry’s leg. A chiropractor told him “You have a pinched nerve in your back.” After the chiropractor’s manipulation, Larry felt better.

It is difficult to think of pain as a gift, particularly when we are hurting, but it is. Pain notifies us that something is wrong in our body, whether physical or emotional. We may need to change what we are doing or get help.

Is there someone you prefer to avoid seeing or feel resentment towards? Emotional pain can be caused by anger, rejection, no consideration, taking us for granted, or criticism. Any hurt, rejection, or embarrassment can be released to God by forgiving the offender. We may have emotional hurt and not know who or what has caused the pain. God will reveal the source and guide us to His healing; if we ask Him.

Bitterness develops when we hang on to anger, resentment, or hurt. That needs an adjustment of our attitude or we will hurt others as we react to the bitterness.

For emotional hurt, whether accidental or intentional, walking in continual forgiveness is the solution. Pay attention to any type of pain you have and seek God’s guidance from our Heavenly Healer.

“He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.” 1 Peter 2:24 (NIV)
