Jesus is Joy

Wow, where to even begin. As a sit back and think of the phrase Pastor Sam has led us with this year “Jesus Is”... I think about joy. Joy is a term that encompasses an emotion we feel that is associated with delight or happiness.

Psalms 37:4 Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.

When our hearts are happy, we say we have joy in our heart. The scripture here teaches us that we must first delight ourselves in the Lord, then He will give us the desires of our heart. I find it unique with Christ that we must first perform an action to receive this joy. He wants to know our relationship with him is genuine and pure.

Delight in this verse is a verb or an action. It is something that we must do. Once we have centered our lives around living a God centered life, and focused on a strong relationship with him, it is then that he gives us the desires of our heart. So, as we put all this together it takes a minute to see that our Joy in the Lord truly comes from our actions and mindset towards him. The more we delight ourselves in him and the more he finds pleasure in us and gives us the desires of our heart which brings us joy.

Your joy in the Lord, starts with you. He wants you to be joyful, he is not going to keep it from you. He is just waiting for you to delight, captivate, gratify, excite, and lift up Him in everything you say, do, and are a part of. The more we work towards this lifestyle the more joy we will find in Him.
