In The Beginning
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.” John 1:1-5
John begins his Gospel by introducing us to the deity of Christ. How fitting it was for him to declare, the eternal truth, that Christ, who is the Word, was there from the beginning and is just as much God as the Father is. When we think about Christ coming to Earth, we sometimes forget that the plan of salvation was also His plan for us. Yes, His sacrifice reconciled us to the Father, but He also desired to provide a way of reconciliation. John declares not only that Christ was God but that all things were made through Him. Without Christ, we were lost and dead in darkness. He is life and light. As we move into the Christmas season, I hope we will remember that the baby born in a manger came to bring light to a dark world and offer eternal life for all who are willing to receive it.
