Going Upstream
I watched a group of ducks on the river. They were going upstream, so I knew they had to be swimming, not just floating with the water current. I couldn’t see their feet paddling under the water, I could only see their bodies sitting on the surface. If I had not seen pictures of and read about how ducks use their feet to paddle under the water, I would have wondered how they were swimming against the current.
This is the way it is with Christians, as we are “swimming” through life. It is God who is giving us the strength, ability, and words that we need to accomplish our daily tasks. He can’t be seen, but He is our motivator and helper.
At times we are going upstream against the current moral standards, political correctness, or others’ ideas for our life. But we can do and say what we are supposed to with God’s “paddling” even against the current.
“With your help I can advance against a troop; with my God I can scale a wall. As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is flawless. He is a shield for all who take refuge in him. For who is God besides the LORD? And who is the Rock except our God? It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect.” 2 Samuel 22:30-33 (NIV)
