So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for him. The night before Herod was to bring him to trial, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, and sentries stood guard at the entrance. Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side and woke him up. “Quick, get up!” he said, and the chains fell off Peter’s wrists.     Acts 15:5-7

Peter was imprisoned and guarded by four squads of four soldiers, but the church earnestly prayed for him. An angel of The Lord came and told him to get up, and the chains fell off his wrist. The church did not stop praying because Peter was kept in prison. Peter had people standing in the gap for his release. Do you know someone who is in captivity that needs you to pray earnestly? Captivity can look like addiction, pride, anger, fear, depression, anxiety, and the list goes on. Have you prayed for someone so long that you have given up hope? These scriptures stepped on my toes because I had given up on a few situations. After all, they seemed hopeless, and after years of praying, the prodigal still was running. The chorus by Mathew West, Don’t Stop Praying, often repeats in my head as I pray for lost family and hopeless situations. We must travail for those in captivity and desperate situations. Trust that God is working, even when we do not see it.

Don't stop calling on Jesus' name

Keep on pounding on Heaven's door

And let your knees wear out the floor

Don't stop believing

'Cause mountains move with just a little faith

And your Father's heard every single word you're saying

So, don't stop praying
