Beauty for Ashes
In managing forest life, controlled burnings have become more and more common and are performed intentionally by fire managers. According to the National Geographic education edition, “Controlled burning, also known as prescribed burning, involves setting planned fires to maintain the health of a forest. Controlled burns are lit for a number of reasons. By ridding a forest of dead leaves, tree limbs, and other debris, a prescribed burn can help prevent a destructive wildfire. Controlled burns can also reduce insect populations and destroy invasive plants. In addition, fire can be rejuvenating.”
There are many times in our lives when we quite literally feel like we are going through the fire. Situations and circumstances can be difficult and overwhelming. However, I want to encourage you today and remind you that your Savior is most definitely with you and He will take this difficult situation you are in and turn it into something beautiful. The outcome will be full of new life and bring you valuable growth in your spiritual life.
In my mind's eye, I see a forest floor covered with black and gray ashes and then as I look closer, I see a sprig of green coming up out of the ground promising new fresh life. Lean into the Lord during this trial of your life and let the things that are dead, unhealthy and even invasive be burned away in order for you to be rejuvenated and restored.
To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes,
The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;
That they may be called trees of righteousness,
The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.” Isaiah 61:3
