Afraid of the Dark

I have to admit, when I was young the dark gave me the creeps. I think maybe it was the uncertainty of what was in the darkness. My grandfather was an old-time country preacher at an ole’ time country church. Many times, I can remember going to my Pa’s house after church only to discover there was a light left on. My grandpa lived right beside the church. He would always say, “son run over and turn that light off for me, would ya?!” Being the brave 10 year old I was I would say, “sure”. I would always pray all the way to church. I knew we had run the devil off during service but I wasn’t sure what happened after we left. Maybe he had come back.
I was a Christian but I had not come to the full understanding of what kind of power I really had over the devil. As for the dark issue, John 8 :12 summed that all up for me: Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.”
It is a great thing to walk around knowing you always have a light to show the right way. Quit walking around lost.
Quit walking in the dark! Quit being afraid!
