I'm Not Looking

“The dandelions with their pretty yellow blooms have popped back up,” I told my husband Larry. Spring had arrived and therefore it was time to work outside in the yard. Digging or spraying was required to prevent the weeds from squeezing out the grass.

Larry and I worked together on this project. One of us dug while the other picked up the plants and put them in a trash bag. Even with working together, our backs soon tired and hurt from the constant bending over.

“I’m not looking anymore,” I announced after about an hour. I knew more dandelions were hiding in the grass, but I didn’t want to bend over and deal with anymore of them. So we walked straight to the house and didn’t look down at the ground.

Sometimes there is sin in our life that we don’t want to look at either. It takes a lot of effort to eradicate it. Just overlooking the wrong seems easier.

But not looking won’t correct the problem, whether it’s a dandelion, bitterness, selfishness or a prideful attitude. Until the roots are pulled up, the mis-deed will rear its head again. Pretending it’s not there will allow for growth and then it takes more effort to get rid of the sin. In the meantime, the seeds reproduce and spread by our mouth or actions.

Eradicating a dandelion needs to be done as soon as it comes up, as does any sin in our life.
