A Present Help
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1
Most of us have a best friend. That one person we call when we are happy or sad or disappointed or scared. A best friend is someone you can share anything. They know our secrets, they share in our victories and encourage us when we are down. It is wonderful to have a best friend.
The disciples had a best friend in Jesus. They witnessed many miracles. When the disciples were discouraged he taught them through parables. He led them by example and was always there when they needed him. Yet in John 16:7 he tells them it is to their advantage for him to go away. But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you. Jesus was describing the Holy Spirit as helper.
They didn’t realize it then, but the Holy Spirit would bring a closer relationship with Jesus and make His power available to them where ever they were or where ever they went. The Holy Spirit would be by their side to help them, strengthen them to comfort them in difficult situations. A help that was present. Anywhere. Anytime.
The Holy Spirit, our helper, our Counselor, our Comforter. The Holy Spirit is just that…Holy. He will bring a manifestation of His holy character into the lives of believers. Is He with you today?
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control: against such there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23
