The Sound of the Spirit
“On the day of Pentecost all the believers were meeting together in one place. Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting. Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them. And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability.”
Acts of the Apostles 2:1-4 NLT
This is going to be a little different but I want to tell my story of when I was baptized in The Holy Spirit. Youth Camp has always had a special place in my heart because that was the first time I felt the awesome power of God. And I will never doubt the baptism of The Holy Spirit for this reason, The Holy Spirit fell on the whole room. The leaders and the evangelist was not pushing it nor were they trying to “make it happen.”
I cannot remember my exact age only I was young maybe 11 or 12 and camp was the highlight of my summer. What made it extra special is this youth camp had this thing called a blob, and WOW talk about the thrill of a lifetime. But it did not come close to what was about to happen.
Services were amazing, kids were giving their lives to Christ and the evangelist was preaching powerful messages. But this night was different. I believe it was a Wednesday or Thursday night and when we walked into the Chapel you could feel a difference. There was a presence that you could physically feel. When praise and worship started it really changed. Kids began to RUN to the altar and WOW, things started happening. The evangelist made his way to the stage and picked up the mic. He asked for the band to stay on stage and told us that the order of the service had changed.
He began to talk about Who The Holy Spirit was, not the gifts or what happens, but the Power and Anointing. All of a sudden you could hear a sound, it started on the left side of the chapel and started moving like a wave to the right. It was the sound of kids beginning to cry. You could feel the atmosphere in the room change and as it was coming to me, I can remember starting to pray but as that wave hit me all of a sudden My words changed. And I fell out under the shear Power of The Holy Spirit. To this day I am changed by what happened to me 21 years ago. When people ask how I know it is real all I can say is the experience I had, I will never doubt.
I was not asking for it, it was not pressed on me or forced. And it should never be, but I know because I was in a room of kids, and heard a sound and felt His Power. That night the service I believe was coming to a close at 1or 2am and they were carrying kids to the dorms still out under the power of the Spirit. I will never doubt and I will never coach people into it. Because I know one day soon, I will hear the sound and feel the Awesome Power of God like I did at Youth camp only it will be happening at the Sanctuary of Hope. It starts in a hunger for more of Him and a devotion to His Spirit.
