The White Cotton Field

“Oh wow, look at the white field.” I marveled at the white beauty in all directions.
As Larry and I drove through west Texas one fall, we saw several white cotton fields ready for harvest. Some of the farmers had already picked the cotton and now the large bales were stacked ready to sell.
This harvest of cotton did not take place overnight. The farmers had to prepare the ground, plant the seed, water it the entire summer and cultivate it. This process takes several months before they see the result of their work. If they got tired and quit watering the crop before harvest time, they would only reap a partial crop or no crop.
Helping other people can also be a long-term investment of our time, energy and finances. Sometimes, it seems to be a thankless and endless job and the results may not be seen quickly. By looking to Him for guidance, we can keep our focus I in the right place-on Him, not on the response of the ones we help. If we don’t quit, God promises we will reap a bountiful harvest.
Helping others is a privilege.
Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers. Galatians 6:9-10 (NIV)
