Black and White Kitty

Uh oh, I stopped walking and stood still. A skunk came out of the brush and crossed the road about a hundred feet ahead of me. Thankfully, he didn’t pay any attention to me and walked on down into the ravine on the other side of the road.

As I walked on, I could faintly smell the skunk odor when I walked past where the skunk had traveled across the road. Even though the skunk could not be seen now, his odor lingered. Anyone who passed by would recognize the pole cat odor and know that one had been there recently.

What odor do we, as Christians, leave behind as we pass through an area? Hopefully it isn’t anger, pride, rudeness, greed, but instead the fragrant odor of kindness, compassion, love, consideration, peace and patience. We want people to know Christ lives in us by the “fragrance” we are remembered by.

“Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.” Ephesians 5:1-2 (NIV)
