Mettle

Today’s word is mettle. The definition of mettle is a person’s ability to cope well with difficulties or to face a demanding situation in a spirited and resilient way. A synonym would be courage. God’s desire for you and I is to be strong of good courage. In Ephesians 6 Paul wants the reader to be reminded of... to Stand. He uses the word 4 times in Ephesians 6:10-20.

In James 4:7, look at the phrase “resist the devil” and what it means to resist. To resist means to stand against, to oppose in some manner. Resistance can be a defensive maneuver on our part, such as resisting temptation to sin. Or it can be an action we take to use offensive, as taking and speaking the Word of God to the devil’s lies and doubts.

Today Lord Jesus, help me and my family to be strong in the Lord and to be able to resist any schemes of the old devil!
